MONTHLY SPOTLIGHTS – OCTOBER 2019
Each month The Organisers shine a spotlight on the best of the best across a range of cultural events, openings and trends!
ART: William Blake
Dates:Until 2nd February 2020
Location: Tate Britain
William Blake was a painter, printmaker and poet who created some of the most iconic images in British art. Radical and rebellious, he is an inspiration to visual artists, musicians, poets and performers worldwide. His personal struggles in a period of political terror and oppression, his technical innovation, his vision and political commitment, have perhaps never been more pertinent. With over 300 original works, including his watercolours, paintings and prints, this is the largest show of Blake’s work for almost 20 years. It will rediscover him as a visual artist for the 21st century.
*Please be aware that the art of William Blake contains strong and sometimes challenging imagery, including some depictions of cruelty, suffering, sexual violence and the brutal treatment of enslaved people.

We cannot avoid using the ‘B’ word in October. Brexit, the UK’s exit from membership of the EU is due to take place on 31st October. Our Parliament is currently prorogued ahead of the Queens’s speech and Party Conference season. Following the referendum of the British public in 2016 and the historic vote to ‘Leave’, our new Prime Minister, Boris Johnson and his negotiating team continue to work towards striking a mutually beneficial deal with the EU. Calls for a General Election from the Opposition were rescinded once the option of a General Election was put on the table by the PM. A difficult and challenging time in Politics and for the British public.
